Yes, the song was a bit bland, but it was very much NOT shitty, and Newman wasn't brilliant, definitely not the best in this year's contest, but he was good.
As much as he'd like to pretend otherwise, a little bit of the vote (both from people and juries) is also about where they would rather the ESC to be hosted next. After the last few years EVERYBODY hates the UK and NOBODY wants to see a London ESC. The 0 points debacle was really more the consequence of Morgan's bs, than of Newman's performance.
