there is literally nothing here I disagree with but I think my biggest point is that ultimately linking another group with terfs by default and online discourse existing the way it is to the point that you Literally Cannot Have A Conversations About Detrans People without someone being like ‘terf? terf? what about terfs, have we discussed how some of them are terfs?’ is the exact thing I am talking about and addressing.

the fact that I cannot mention detrans people without someone (who is at least respectful this time) coming into my inbox to remind me and point out that So Many Detrans People are Terfs in regards to a post I made about how the reason that you don’t know many detrans people who aren’t terfs is because of this exact thing!

beyond all that I think that I think the argument 'if you go into their tag it’s full of awful people’ just. doesn’t work as as a demographic survey. the people who want to be loud are going to be the people using the tag. the people who have the biggest opinions they want people to see are going to be using x tag.

it’s like saying 'oh trans people can’t pass except for a few of them’ in the same way, because you don’t see the detrans people who you can’t see.

using a tumblr tag as a demographic poll to see if x group doesn’t have shitty opinions doesn’t work and isn’t accurate in the slightest, especially when the people who aren’t shitty aren’t allowed to just even exist without 'i don’t know why you have to mention you’re detrans, you’re cis so it doesn’t matter’ and 'you need to not talk about your experiences because transphobes will use you as fodder’ and the absolute fear that the trans community has of detrans people in the first place. on TOP of all of this a lot of detrans people don’t want to even mention or talk about it because they personally feel shame and wrong about having been wrong!

“if all gay people weren’t pedophiles then why don’t I know any gay people? if they’re not all horrible people who prey on children they should make themselves known and tell me’ is literally part of the reason why it was so incredibly hard to come out or even talk about being gay. it’s the same logic.

tldr 1: 'x community sucks because the people who want the most attention in their group sucks as shown by the results of this tumblr’ is not accurate or appropriate

tldr 2: 'most of the people in this group are horrible people with awful opinions, wait, why isn’t anyone from this group talking about how they’re part of this group?’ is still the take away from this
